Pakistani Student Earns Doctorate in Law from UNISSULA with 3.99 GPA

Muhammad Azam, a doctoral student from Pakistan enrolled in the Doctoral Program in Law (PDIH) at Universitas Islam Sultan Agung, officially earned his doctorate after successfully defending his dissertation in an open examination on March 2, 2026, achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.99. The open examination was chaired by UNISSULA Rector Prof. Dr. Gunarto, S.H., M.H. as Head of the Examination Board, and attended by international supervisors and examiners including Prof. Abdul Thalib bin Bon (Malaysia), Prof. Giao Vu Cong (Vietnam), and Prof. Arshad Munir Leghari (Pakistan). Azam's dissertation examined the harmonization of international trade law with Sharia-based national legal systems across five member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation: Pakistan, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia. Through a comparative approach, his research was recognized for making a significant contribution to bridging international and Sharia-based national legal systems. The examination board praised Azam's ability to answer questions with comprehensive argumentation and in-depth analysis. Azam expressed his gratitude for UNISSULA's academic support and inclusive international environment. The event was also attended by international students from Timor-Leste, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, and Malaysia.
