Comparative Law and International Political Issues at the Heart of the Islamic World

PDIH UNISSULA Semarang's field study program (KKL) reached its peak on the fourth day in Egypt with an academic visit to Al-Azhar University in Cairo. The delegation, consisting of doctoral candidates from various professions — academics, police officers, prosecutors, and legal practitioners — took part in an in-depth discussion on the comparison of Islamic legal systems and developments in international law. Welcomed by Prof. Ata Abdul Athi, Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, participants joined an interactive discussion forum covering a range of legal topics, including contemporary issues such as human rights violations in Gaza, raised by one of the participants. Before the visit to Al-Azhar, the delegation, led by UNISSULA Faculty of Law Dean Prof. Dr. H. Jawade Hafidz, S.H., M.H., visited the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Cairo as part of academic diplomacy. Zaim A. Nasution, Deputy Ambassador of Indonesia to Egypt, explained that relations between Indonesia and Egypt have existed since the early days of independence. Al-Azhar University, founded in 970 CE by the Fatimid Dynasty, is recognized as a center of Islamic learning and civilization. The discussions covered Islamic law, international trade law, criminal law, and international legal politics. After Egypt, the delegation continued to Palestine and Jordan for a spiritual pilgrimage and comparative study at the Applied Science Private University (ASU) in Amman.
