Judicial Commission Member Abhan Earns Doctorate at PDIH Unissula

Semarang, 22 August 2026 — Dr. Abhan, S.H., M.H., a member of the Judicial Commission of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2025–2030 term, has been awarded a Doctorate in Legal Science. The degree was conferred following an Open Doctoral Promotion Session at the Faculty of Law, Sultan Agung Islamic University, held at the Kaligawe Campus in Semarang on Saturday, 22 August 2026. At the open examination, Abhan defended his dissertation titled “Reconstructing the Regulation of the Judicial Commission's Duties, Authority and Obligations in Enforcing the Judicial Code of Ethics Based on Pancasila Justice”. The research highlights the importance of strengthening the Judicial Commission as an institution so that enforcement of the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct for Judges can work at its best, grounded in the values of Pancasila justice. The work was rigorously examined by nine examiners. From Unissula's Faculty of Law were Prof. Dr. H. Gunarto, S.H., M.H., Prof. Dr. Jawade Hafidz, S.H., M.H., Prof. Dr. Anis Mashdurohatun, S.H., M.Hum., and Prof. Dr. Bambang Tri Bawono, S.H., M.H. The other examiners were Prof. Dr. H. Sunarto, S.H., M.H. (Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia), Prof. Dr. Yanto, S.H., M.H. (Justice of the Supreme Court), Prof. Badri Munir Sukoco, S.E., M.B.A., Ph.D. (Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology), Prof. Dr. Eman Suparman, S.H., M.H. (Professor at the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University), and KPA Dr. H. Abdul Chair Ramadhan, S.H., M.H. (Chairman of the Judicial Commission of the Republic of Indonesia). In his defence, Abhan stressed that strengthening the regulation of the Judicial Commission's authority is crucial, as Indonesia's judicial system requires strong ethical oversight. In his view, a reconstruction grounded in Pancasila justice would not only provide legal certainty but also deliver substantive justice while safeguarding the dignity and nobility of the judicial profession.
